I haven’t had a glass of milk since the 1950s.
For more than 70 years, I avoided dairy. Not because I had allergies, but because I came to believe milk wasn’t a good food for adults. My skin stayed clear, my digestion worked well, and I felt strong without it.
But just recently, I made an exception. My wife makes homemade yogurt, and I started eating one small cup each night. It helped me sleep better, or so I thought.
Then something unexpected happened. It scared the bejeebers out of me, I thought my shingles came back to get me:
A rash broke out—slowly at first, then spreading across most of my body. I wondered if my old case of shingles was returning. I looked at everything in my routine. The only recent change? The yogurt.
So, I stopped all dairy products completely. Within days, the rash disappeared.
The message was clear: my body doesn’t want dairy.
And after 70 years without it, why would it? My system had long since adapted to life without milk, and when I brought it back—it didn’t feel welcome.
Here’s the lesson I’d like to share:
Your body knows what it wants. You just have to listen. When something changes—your skin, your energy, your digestion—don’t ignore it. Look at what you’ve added or changed. Food can heal, or it can irritate.
If you’re dealing with a rash or other skin issue, don’t assume it’s just age or bad luck. Consider what you’re eating, even if it’s something “healthy” like homemade yogurt. It might be healthy for someone else—but that doesn’t mean it’s right for you.
You’re the only expert on your body. Don’t be afraid to test, remove, and observe. Your body will tell you the truth—if you’re willing to listen.— The Healthy Old Guru #healthyLiving
