Are You Hungry, or thirsty, or are you just Tired
We Quite Often Eat or Drink When We are Really Just Tired.
In today’s world many of us don’t get enough rest. Those of us who are high achievers don’t give our overworked bodies and minds enough down time. A couple of thousand years ago we faced the problem with an enforced seventh day rest day–Sabbath, (Sunday). The Church Fathers decided that God rested on the seventh day, and so should we. Then the labor unions forced an eight hour day and a forty hour week. But, in today’s world a lot of us just work until we are completely exhausted. We are really just tired. We expect too much from our bodies and minds. We don’t quite understand that our modern equipment doesn’t get tired, but our bodies and minds do. We must now take the time to rest more often.
When we are hungry, we eat or drink something.
A sweet drink or a doughnut might be enticing, but that could very well be the wrong thing for us at this time. This can be a quick pickup and quick let-down happens. This does not solve our problem, it just causes more problems.
There is No Such Thing as a Healthy Snack.
When we are hungry is the time our bodies and brains need to rest from the arduous task of digesting food, and repair and maintenance; yes, that is hard work too. I will go into more detail about mini fasts in articles about nightly fasts and windows of daily eating opportunities. This is too important and too just hit lightly here.
